Teens and Screens: Parenting with Hope in a Digital Age
Technology is the number one reason parents believe raising kids is more complicated than it was in the past. Managing the tech in our homes is messy, confusing, time-consuming, and challenging. There are so many dangers and we want our teens to be protected while they learn to protect themselves.
If you have ever felt afraid, anxious, or overwhelmed about your tween or teen’s tech usage, this course is for you! Good information leads to good inspiration so I have put together several years of research on this topic into one amazing course.
After working through these videos and the accompanying manual, you will feel more confident:
keeping your tween/teen safe online
opening up conversations about safety
setting up a layered monitoring system (blog post here)
creating family rules about screen usage
setting boundaries
knowing when it’s ok to trust your tween/teen
knowing what types of things to watch out for in regards to video games and social media

Some of the questions I examine during the course are:
When (and why) should I get my teen a phone?
What defenses can I set up to protect my teen on the internet?
How can I feel less afraid and more peaceful?
What is screen addiction and how can I help my teen avoid it?
How can I improve my own screen usage?
How much screen time is too much screen time for teens?
What can I do to help my teen be emotionally healthy?
What is the imaginary audience and how does it affect social media use in young teens?
How can I keep screens in their proper place in my home?
What conversations do I need to have with my tween/teen?
The course is made up of five guides:
Using Screens as Entertainment
Using Screens as Buffers
Using Screens to Connect
Using Screens as Tools
Parenting with Hope
Each guide has 4-5 short videos in it covering topics like:
